Hiibel v. Nevada September 2004 -
"During a valid investigative stop (established under Terry v. Ohio), a police officer can require persons to identify themselves if they have “reasonable suspicion” that this information is pertinent to an investigation they are conducting in the course of enforcing a clear and specific state law. Individuals who refuse to respond may be detained and arrested by the enforcement officers."
Just that fact that 90% of illegal immigrants in this country are of Hispanic origin, is definitely "reasonable suspicion."
At different times throughout the year, here in Houston, as well as other major cities, the police will often set up road blocks at random, in order to catch drunk drivers. No one has ever contested this practice as illegal or unconstitutional.
Why can't there be random, daily investigations of businesses and companies, to check for violation of the illegal immigrant employment laws?
We need to start somewhere! Perhaps we should take a closer look at our elected officials. If they are "enablers," by not enforcing our laws, they don't need to be in office! Let's start at the top...
