Immigration

We are a nation of immigrants...I don't believe that the average American has a problem with immigration; It's the "illegal" part we don't like. My grandparents, as yours might have, migrated here about 100 years ago. They came through Ellis Island to escape persecution in Europe. Their immigration to America was legal. The government gave them no handouts nor were any special provisions made for their comfort. They had to pay taxes when due and learn the language. Schools didn't hire special bi-lingual teachers for their kids. No forms were printed especially for them to understand. Their children, my parents, didn't get their college tuition paid for with funds from the taxes of American citizens.
It is said that around
70% of the estimated 20 million illegal immigrants in this country today are from Mexico. Mexico does not have a Dictator; Mexico has no death squads roaming the streets. Mexico does have poverty and crime, especially from gang violence, far exceeding the amount we have here in America. Mexican, and other immigrants, come here because we have something that they want and don't have. Some are just looking for a better life for their family. I want a better life for my family, too, but can't break the law to get it!
As does most any other American, I have a great deal of empathy for the less fortunate of humanity and consider myself to be a very charitable person. I don't like the thought of children going to bed hungry any more than you do. We see in the media on a daily basis, pictures of malnourished and diseased infants in their mothers' arms; We see boys and girls without shoes walking miles to a shanty which serves as their school. Our hearts break and many contribute to the organizations designed to help these people. However, since the world has become such a small place, that within a matter of seconds, video is streaming into our living rooms with images of tragedy and devastation from all corners of the globe, it is all too easy to forget about our own neighbors.

Charity begins at home...Do you, a supposedly informed American citizen, actually know the statistics in regard to the great need in our own country? Do you know how many homeless men, women and children live in the streets.....Do you know how many Veterans or Disabled individuals sleep on park benches.....Do you know how many mothers run out of food stamps before the month is over.....Do you know how many mentally disturbed American citizens can't get help because their State hospitals have no empty beds due to being overcrowded with illegal immigrants.....Do you know how many of our deserving high school graduates can't afford college, while the tuition of illegal immigrants and their children are paid for with "special funds?" And I'm talking about ALL American young people...white, black, Hispanic, Asian...
Since when does one give a heater to a stranger when our own family is cold? America is my home and all Americans are my extended family!
The idea of breaking up families is not a pleasant thought for anyone but, let me ask you this: If a man breaks into your home and steals possessions that you worked hard for, do you not prosecute him because he needed the money to pay rent for his children? Should he not be punished when caught and perhaps go to jail? When he goes to jail, will this not break up his family? How, then, is this any different from what illegal immigrants are doing to all of us?Illegal immigrants have broken into our "home," availed themselves of our goods and services and taken the American taxpayers money, when they have no right to!
I understand that there are many "innocents" involved, i.e. a child brought here when just a few months old or a pregnant women coming here to purposely have their baby born on American soil. These children had no say in the matter. It was a decision made by a parent who is supposed to do the right thing and protect their child. There is a price to pay for everything we do in life. When you break the law, you know the consequences! The one thing that is very wrong is that we, the American taxpaying public, are the ones paying the price.....and none of it is even our fault! The minute an immigrant crosses our border without permission, they have broken the law, which is no different than driving without a license: The law says that you cannot drive. If you do and are caught, there are repercussions.

  • "This country couldn't get along without the work illegal immigrants do."

  • "Illegal immigrants contribute to society and our economy."

  • "Illegal immigration is a victimless crime."
Do you believe these statements? As I asked earlier on this page, as an informed American, do you know the real facts? I have seen many surveys lately in regard to the feelings of Americans toward illegal immigration and the proposed Amnesty. They all say that our Citizens want illegal immigrants expelled from this country, and the figures show that "we want this by a huge percentage of the population!"
In the next segment, I will show you statistics about exactly what the true cost of illegal immigration is and, it goes beyond just dollars, to encompass the effect to Americans on our
educational and penal system, plus the toll on society from the additional crimes being committed. Also, please keep in mind that much of this information is based on data that may be several years old and the numbers have greatly increased since then.
